AIMA Awards to Dr S S Badrinath - Outstanding Institution Builder
It is said that awards and
accolades find their way most to those who seek them the least. It was yet
another befitting recognition to a man whose only goal was to build and develop
an institution which would fulfill his dream of providing quality eye care, especially
to those who cannot afford it and eradicate blindness from the face of the
earth. The ethical and path breaking means he adopted to reach his goal threw
light on the other side of the legendary doctor and won him and his institution
such accolades as ‘The best managed charitable institution in India’ by none
other than the legendary Nani Palkhivala, his business model as a self
sustaining non-profit evoked critical acclaim and became a subject of study by
students from international B- schools and his able governance made his
institution an acclaimed ‘Social Enterprise’. It was a moment of crowning glory
for his institution, the entire Sankara Nethralaya family and its leading
architect when the AIMA (All India Management Association) the premium and apex
body for management professionals chose to honour Dr. SS.Badrinath with the
title ‘Outstanding Institution Builder’ in its highly prestigious ‘Managing
India Awards’- 2014. These annual awards recognize contributions of those who
have set benchmarks of excellence in their respective spheres and have helped
build brand India .
It was an interesting co-incidence
when Chief Guest Shri Rajnath Singh, Honourable Home Minister who gave away the
awards observed that India would emerge the ‘Jagat guru’ (Spiritual head) of
the nation after honouring the man whose institution was founded on the holy
command of the Jagat guru and led by a man who believed that spiritualism is an
inseparable part of everyday functioning, the honourable Minister
also echoed the deep rooted beliefs and sentiments of the ‘Outstanding
Institution Builder’ with his observations that ‘Indians can do it’ and we
should arrest the ‘brain drain’ from the country.
