The Ambassador Group of Hotels Doyens of Madras award - 2014 presented by Governor K Rosaiah, and Dr S S Badrinath - Founder Sankara Nethralaya & The Sankara Nethralaya Academy(TSNA).
The 2nd edition of
Doyens of Madras Awards is celebrated on August 23. Organised as part of Madras
Week by Ambassador Pallava, the event aims at recognising and honoring people
who have made Chennai go global.. The list includes Padma Vibhushan Dr M S
Swaminathan for Science, Padma Vibhushan Dr Prathap Reddy for Medicine, Padma
Shri V Bhaskaran for Hockey, Padma Shri Vijay Amritraj for Tennis, A Vellayan
and B A Kodandarama Setty for industry, Bhaskar Ramamurthy for Academics, and
Priyadarsini Govind for Arts.
The awards
will be presented by Governor K Rosaiah, and Dr S S Badrinath, chairman,
Sankara Nethralaya, (who was a recipient of the previous year’s Doyen Award)
will be delivering the keynote address, at the event on Saturday.
The
'Doyens of Madras' awards will be presented to four adyaries for their
outstanding contributions in their respective fields. These awards will be
presented on Madras Day (Aug 23rd ) by the Governor of Tamilnadu at Hotel
Ambassador Pallava in Egmore.
The recipients are Dr. MS Swaminathan,
(Chairman, M.S Swaminathan Research Foundation), Dr. Bhaskar Ramamurthy (
Director, IIT Madras), Padmashri V Baskaran (former captain, Indian Hockey
team) and Priyadarshini Govind ( Director of Kalakshetra).
The
Ambassador Group of Hotels will honour eminent residents of Chennai who
excelled in their chosen field by presenting Doyens of Madras Awards 2014.
Addressing
mediapersons here yesterday, Ambassador Pallava general manager Krithivasan
said that eight outstanding individuals would be awarded this year on 23 August
by Tamilnadu Governor K Rosaiah.
He
also said that these individuals had not only excelled in their profession but
also put Chennai on the international map. Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador
Pallava management consultant V Chandrasekar said it is a rare opportunity to
see eight distinguished
Indians
who made India
proud on a same stage. 'I think this would be the first time to see all eight
on same stage,' he added. The awardees are M S Swaminathan for his contribution
to science, Dr Prathap Reddy (Medicine), V Baskaran (Hockey), Vijay Amritraj
(Tennis), A Vellayan (Industry), B A Kodandarama Setty (Industry) Bhaskar
Ramamurthy (Academics) and Priyadarshini Govind (Arts).
