The Sankara Nethralaya Academy (TSNA) is the education arm of Sankara Nethralaya (a unit of Medical Research foundation). TSNA offers career oriented programs in the field of allied healthcare and Hospital administration, Designed to meet the growing demand for the well trained health care professionals, our allied health science courses are run in collaboration with The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR medical University and other reputed organizations like Association of British Dispensing Opticians & Johnson & Johnson etc.

Seminars /Sessions organized:

 

§         Seminar on Hospital management held on 5^th Jan 2013. Management Guru Prof. Bala V Balachandar, Founder & Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai. Prof. J.L. Kellogg Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Accounting and Information Management, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA, also participated as a speaker.

§         Seminar on Legal Issues relating to hospital Administrations held on 11 & 12 of October 2013.

§         Seminar on Clinical Nano medicine conducted on August 1-2, 2013. The Program was initiated by Prof.H.N.Madhavan, Prof.Ramarajaram, Dr.Kannan Raghuraman, Dr.Anandhi Upendran, and Dr.Nripen Chanda. The program included a plenary lecture by Prof.C.N.R Rao, National Research Professor, Linus Pauling Professor, JNCASR, and Bangalore. 63 participants attended the session from various institutes

§         Seminar on Genetic Counselling and Gene Testing held on 21^st December 2013.

§         Seminar on Emerging Trends in Hospital Administrations was held on May 9 & 10 2014.

§         A session on Healthcare Marketing organized on 07.06.2014 and 24 delegates took part in this session.

 

Highlights:

 

§         The eminent panel of Dr Sunil Chandy, Director Christian Medical college, Vellore, Dr S.Aravind, Administrator and Director, Aravind Eye Care Systems, Dr Sameer Mehta, Director, Dr Mehta’s Hospitals and Dr SS.Badrinath Chairman Emeritus, Sankara Nethralaya participated the SN Academy`s 2 Day National Seminar on Hospital Administration on May 9 and 10 2014.

§         Achieved 100% result in MBA final year university examination conducted by The TN Dr.MGR Medical University in the month of Nov 2013.

§         The Tamil Nadu  Dr.MGR Medical University, Chennai appointed our faculty resources Dr. Anuja R Singh and G. Senthilkumar as members of the Expert Committee for Dispensing Optics and Hospital Management Programs respectively.

§         Introduced a new under-graduate management program B.Sc.–Hospital Management;   affiliation awaited from The TN Dr.MGR Medical University.

§         Affiliation for MSc – Medical Laboratory Technology course has been received from The TN Dr MGR Medical University.

§         The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University has declared TSNA as a centre for VIVA-VOCE Examination for final year MBA program

§         Applied with Distance Education Council (IGNOU) for recognition of our distance learning programs. Subsequently, UGC has taken over the monitoring of distance education and fresh guidelines are awaited.

§         More than 100 were benefited by the free eye screening camp held in Vanagaram campus

§         Career counselling sessions were held at Kanchipuram, Amabattur and at SN Main

§         12 students granted scholarship with total /partial waiver of course fees during this year

§         Sankara Nethralaya’s avowed principle of ‘business with compassion’ draws management students from prestigious University of Albany, USA, in 2013.

§         Students from Management Centre, Innsbruck, Austria, highly impressed with Sankara Nethralaya’s infrastructure and services in 2014.

§         127 Free Press Releases on Academy appeared in leading Tamil & English news papers.

§         Fellowship of British Dispensing Opticians (FBDO) program, in collaboration with Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO), UK has been successfully organized, with 13 students the second batch and 12 students in the third batch which commenced in September 2013.

§         Agreement with Essilor renewed for offering DLP and another agreement signed for offering CORM for which content development is underway.

§         Agreement signed with Johnson & Johnson for the HIC program.

Future Plans:

• Few Diploma /Degree /Short term courses to be launched in collaboration with reputed university affiliations from the academic year 2014-15.
• Seeking accreditation from National Skill Development Corporation for a few Skill Development programs in Healthcare
