An eye opener for practising Optometrists

 

The third session in the Nethra Vidya series of Continuing Optometric Education (COE) 2014 was conducted on 15^th June 2014. The topic was speciality contact lens fitting and it was enthusiastically attended by 40 Optometry graduates and young practitioners.

 

The educative session started with a welcome address by Anuja R Singh, Head – Optometry Education, The Sankara Nethralaya Acdemy who took the audience through the various courses launched by the Academy in the academic year 2014-15.

 

This was followed by the Head of Contact lens Clinic Dr. Rajeswari Mahadevan and her team of faculty comprising of Mrs. Amudha Oli, Ms. Rajni, Ms. P.Sakunthala,  Mr. Biman Das, presenting highly informative and interactive sessions on various aspects of speciality contact lens fitting like Rose K lenses, Piggy backs, soft torics and Rigid Gas permeable contact lenses.

 

The highlight of the day was an unique presentation by Dr. Rajeswari on Advanced speciality contact lenses like Boston prose, semi scleral, Ortho K and hybrid c/ls. Afternoon saw the participants engage in live practical sessions where the different types of contact lenses were fitted on selected patients and student voulunteers.

 

The highly interesting session ended with a vote of thanks by the coordinator Ms. Ashwini, The Sankara Nethralaya Academy.
